Magenta hued with a vibrant ruby red rim. The nose offers up an inviting bouquet of ripe red cherry, damp earth, and nuances of fresh violet. The palate is elegantly structured, with harmonious layers of fine-grained tannins and refreshing acidity. As the wine unfolds it reveals a sublime blend of blackberry, wild thyme and dark cacao, while savory herbal notes add a further intriguing dimensional note. The finish is long and graceful with a touch of graphite—a hallmark of Coombsville’s cool climate and volcanic soils.
GROWING SEASON
The 2022 growing season kicked off with mild winter temperatures and low rainfall, conditions that led to an early budbreak.
A relatively cool spring ensued, followed by a classic temperate summer, keeping berry development and vine growth on pace.
Warm conditions in August followed by an intense heat wave after the Labor Day weekend hastened harvest. Though an atypical growing season, overall quality proved to be strong, producing fruit with fresh acidity, ripe mature tannins, and beautifully complex flavors.
