Paul Hobbs

Over the course of four-plus decades,

Paul Hobbs has been integral in shaping

the modern era of fine wine. Known for his experimental approach and instinct for uncharted terroir, he works across four continents, launching multiple globally recognized wineries and earning a rare series of 100-point scores along the way.

Raised on his family’s apple orchard in Western New York, Paul channeled his agricultural roots and scientific mind to build a career filled with first-of-a-kind accomplishments—from elevating the international profile of Argentina’s Malbec to championing site-specific winemaking before it became more widely known.
In 2013, Forbes called him the “Steve Jobs of Wine,” a nod to his intellectual rigor and transformative impact on the industry. For Paul, a relentless drive for self-improvement has always informed his vision for growth. At ALH, Paul serves as both co-founder and mentor, reflecting his belief in the natural evolution of all things made with care. “When you create something, you give it a name, nurture it, and eventually allow it to find its place in the world,” he says. “Let’s see where it goes.”

“Wine lives with us like no other beverage. It has the ability to change with time and if made well, you can watch it grow and evolve just like any true living thing.”
